The United States has not yet fully banned asbestos.  Many common household products made today and buildings built through the 1980s still contain amounts that could be dangerous for your family or employees.  Does your home or building contain a hazardous level of asbestos?

At the start of the 20th century, asbestos claimed status as the “miracle mineral”.  Builders and manufacturers took advantage of its strength, thermal insulation and fire resistant qualities.  It could be found in everything under the sun, from paint to insulation, fiberboard to siding, even cement, floor tiles, brake pads and cigarettes. But by the mid-1970s, scientists confirmed a startling discovery – asbestos was the culprit behind thousands of life-threatening cases of asbestosis (permanent scarring of the lung tissue) and mesothelioma (a cancer of the lung).  By 1981, the United States officially banned asbestos from building and manufacturing. In fact, building owners had to prove that their buildings were asbestos-free if built prior to that year.

Despite the national ban, however, asbestos still exists in many homes and buildings.

How We Help

When materials that contain asbestos deteriorate over time or become disturbed or damaged due to physical contact, building renovation, and demolition, dangerous asbestos fibers are released into the air and are inhaled by your family, employees or tenants. Undetectable to the naked eye, these fibers (about 18,000 times thinner than a human hair) can remain in your environment for years.

Process

The process by which we abate asbestos entails a detailed work plan that is clearly communicated to you from beginning to end.

  • Pre-Abatement: After an initial assessment of asbestos is conducted in your home or place of business, our team comes together to develop a thorough work plan that includes notification requirements, safety procedures, removal, and proper handling and disposal.  We then communicate that plan to you.
  • Set-Up: To ensure the safety of those who live and work in your home and building, we carefully remove all moveable objects; cover non-moveable items, walls, floors and ceilings with high-grade, protective plastic; and seal off any openings through which asbestos fibers might escape. We also install negative pressure equipment to further ensure fibers stay within the abatement area.
  • Abatement: We then begin to remove any material found to contain asbestos and place the hazardous matter into special disposal bags, which is then disposed outside in special units lined with special protective covering.  We use high-volume pressure systems and the latest pressure-washing equipment to rid the area of any remaining fibers.
  • Post-Abatement: A series of multiple wet-wipe cleaning, drying, HEPA vacuuming, plastic removal and proper disposal of contaminated material is performed to clear the area of any asbestos.  Finally, multiple inspections and air samples are taken to ensure the complete removal of asbestos in your environment.
